Sources: Timberwolves to rehire David Kahn

For the first time in their relatively short history, the Minnesota Timberwolves will make the first overall choice in next month's NBA Draft. This class is considered to be fairly deep, and is headlined by Kentucky's Karl-Anthony Towns and Duke's Jahlil Okafor.

In anticipation of the draft, sources close to SoW indicate that Wolves owner Glen Taylor is set to hire David Kahn to take over as the club's general manager. Kahn, a notoriously horrendous basketball mind, was Minnesota's primary basketball decision-maker from 2009 to 2013. During his four-season tenure, the Timberwolves finished 15th, 15th, 12th and 12th in the Western Conference, respectively.

"David has a commanding presence that I grew to love during his time here in the past," explained Taylor, stifling laughter. "You can't help but love the way in which he's so authoritative in his mindlessly atrocious player evaluation. It's quite charming, and a little adorable."

For the first time since Kevin Garnett's first stint with the team, there's plenty of optimism surrounding the future of the Timberwolves. With Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins showing flashes of potential superstardom and players like Ricky Rubio and Gorgui Dieng developing into solid contributors, Minnesota could be a team to be reckoned with sometime in the near future.

Although Khan was fired just over two years ago, Rubio is the only player remaining on the roster that Kahn originally acquired. He took Rubio fifth overall in the 2009 draft, when he famously selected another point guard, Jonny Flynn, with the very next pick.

"I just love the way Jonny and Ricky have grown over the last couple of years as I watched from afar," said Kahn during a conference call, apparently unaware that Flynn has been out of the NBA for, like, three years now. "In particular, I'm looking forward to working with Jonny further and helping him become even better than the superstar he is today."

Despite most analysts and observers believing Towns and Okafor are the clear-cut top-two players in this draft, Kahn hinted that he may go in a different direction with Minnesota's first choice.

"You look at a guy like Frank Kaminsky and it just screams 'future Hall of Famer'", rambled Kahn, sounding possibly drunk. "There's nothing Minnesotans love more than fellow white guys, so I'm going to give the fans what they want."

Head coach Flip Saunders, who had previously held the GM position, couldn't be reached for comment, as he was chewing on a pen.
